GAOL TERM IMPOSED

THEFTS BY CARETAKER GOODS OF TENANTS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, this day. On a charge of theft of goods belonging to the tenants of the city building of which he was caretaker, John Livingstone Fisher, aged 58 years, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment in the Police Court,. He pleaded guilty. The police said that Fisher had been caretaker of the Palmerston Buildings for 13 years. He admitted stealing goods valued at over £6O. Fisher was addicted to drink. He was recently' sent to hospital suffering from alcoholic poisoning. His wife was ill and was not expected to recover.

“Fortunately, cases of caretakers abusing their trust and resorting to theft are extremely rare,” said the magistrate, Mr. J. H. Luxford. “but when they occur it is not a case for leniency.”
