The Navy Department announced that American surface ships bombarded the Japanese on the northwestern sector of Guadalcanal' Island, causing heavy explosions and fires. Direct hits were scored on ammunition dumps. The department also announced that on Sunday 20 enemy bombers, escorted by 20 Zero .fighters, attacked our positions on Guadalcanal Our Grumman Wildcats intercepted them and shot down eight enemy bombers and 11 Zeros. Two' United States fighters are missing.
