SERVICE APPEALS
GENERAL AND RELEASES Appeals against general service and for release from camp were among those heard by the Gisborne Armed Forces Appear Board yesterday. General service appeals were lodged in respect of L. L. Worthington, clerk, and C. G. Dorrian, district agent, employees of the New Zealand Government in the Social Security Department, by the Director of National Service. Evidence was submitted by T. A. N. Johnson, registrar. —Sine die adjournments were recommended in both cases. J. Scott sought the release from camp of E. J. Scott, farm-hand. The appellant said he had 16 acres of land at. Waerengn-a-hika. in which lie was growing vegetables. He required the reservist’s assistance for cropping. The Waerenga-a-hika Primary Production Council supported the appeal. —Leave was recommended to November SO. , , / ' , , The estate of W. Harris appealed against the general service of E. 11. Harris, station manager. Mr. L. C. Parker said in support that the reservist was managing a 6574-acre station with the assistance of only a 15-year-old boy. It was desirable that he be retained on the property to keep up production. He had nine children. — The appeal was adjourned sine die, the reservist to remain in the Home Guard. 1 A barrister, R. B. Pearson, appealed personally against general service. The reservist said that in addition to his legal practice in Gisborne he carried on his business in Tolaga Bay. and as there were no- other solicitors in practice at Tolaga Bay it would be in the public 'interest for him to be retained.—The appeal was dismissed, the reservist not to be called before December 31.
