TOKOMARU BAY NEWS
The patriotic committee sponsored a very enjoyable dance in the Maori dining hall, Tokomaru Bay, in honour of soldiers on leave. The music was provided by Mr. W. Forrester, extras being played by Miss M. King. A delicious savoury supper was served by the ladies, after which Messrs A. B.‘ Forrester and Wi Matahiki spoke on behalf of all present and wished all "the very best” in the future. Mrs. J. L. Grant handed each of the soldiers present a parcel and an envelope from the patriotic committee. The soldiers present were Driver F. Jackson, Privates J. Jackson, A. King, It. Joan son, Walter Forrester, A. Gardner, and T. Brown, and Inn McCallum, who is joining the air force. During the afternoon recess at the bowling and tennis opening Mr. G. Glen introduced Mr. G. A. Hayden, secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board, Wellington, who spoke to the gathering on patriotic affairs, giving a very lucid idea of the amount of money raised in the country and how it was spent. Mr. Hayden was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Later Mr. Hayden- addressed a gathering of Maoris at Hautanoa, where he was also well received. Driver F. Jnekson, who is on leave, is the guest of Mrs. I. Doig, Ongaruru.—Mr. J. Riddell, Ongaruru, who has been an inmate of Te Puia Hospital for several weeks, has returned to his home much improved in health.—Private Ray Johnson is spending a week’s leave with his'parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. Johnson. Te Puka Hotel.—Private J. Jackson is spending his leave with his father Mr. J. Jackson, Hautanoa.—Mrs. W. 1,. Britton has returned to Tokomaru Bay after spending a few days in Gisborne.—Private A. Gardner is on leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Gardner.—Private T. Trown is spending his furlough at his home in Tokomaru Bay. Mrs. T, Conole, who was the guest of Mrs. J. B. Stafford, Gisborne, has returned to her home.—Mr. J. B. Stafford, Iranui road, Gisliornfe, was the recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. Oates. —Miss Mary Kevin has returned to Wellington after spending extended leave with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Nevin.
