ATHLETIC SEASON
STARTING NEXT WEEK It was decided .at, the ■ annual: meeting ..of the Gisborne Amateur. Athletic. and. Harrier Club that-the opening -date for the, club’s activities, would be October, 24, and that every Saturday afternoon,..excluding October 31, Show Day, until December 19, would be sports afternoons. In reviewing thie previous .season's activities, the chairman, Mr.. C. E. Brown, Aa;u that, it .tvaji " unfortuhafe .: that what ' had promised be i good Season laßt.yetir had been brought to an abrupt close by the entrance of Japan into the war., „It was t)ie duty .of all those left behind to keep ,the flag ilying. and he hoped thdt the-ciub.would be able to function. .He mentioned two old members , wh’o..had Served the/club ably on the centre, Messrs. H. iV.Forster,>nd Algie: He, also complimented. Mr. C. Greig on the good work he had done for the young athletes, and said that the club was fortunate in having his services. It was decided to hold cycle races if suf-' ficient entries were forthcoming,. - The election of officers resulted: —-Patron, Mr. T. K. Gordon; president, Mr. G. E. Brown; club captain, Mr. M, Taylor; ..vicecaptain, Mr; J. Mathieson.; hon,_ secretarytreasurer, Mr. T. G. Turley ; hon. coach, Mr. C. Greig; hon. solicitor, Mr. E. T. Brosnahan;, hon, ■ auditor, Mr. D. G. Dyer; hon. surveyor. Mr. G. Glapcott; committee, Miss L. Scott; Messrs, Churchill, P.. Evans, G. button,' L. Barkery-G. Heed, N. Dec, T. Boulton and T. o’Bvlen.
At a meeting held at., the, close of the annual .meeting, it \vas decided that nc>,gate charges .would be made during the .season, but that a, collection, would ljft taken up inside the grounds.. All entries . are .to. be handed in ,at Fitzmaiirice and Butler’s, shop before noon/'ini' the Thursday., prior to the sports afternoon,, .
