R.A.F. FIGHTER SWEEPS
FRENCH COAST AREA NO NAZI INTERCEPTION (British Oiiicial Wireless.) (10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, Oct. 12. After the successful United States bomber and Royal Air Force fighter attack on the Lille district last Friday, Spitfires and Mustangs of the Army Co-operation Command made a number of attacks on fortified positions along tne French coast. There was no fighter interference — an indication that the Luftwaffe had suffered enough damage for one day from the' guns of the laying Fortresses and Liberators. The attacks were made irom a very low level, but all the Allied planes returned safely.
There was a sharp raid causing some damage and casualties in a north-east coast town to-night. A school was set on fire but the outbreak was soon controlled. There was heavy antiaircraft fire. Not more than 10 enemy aircraft were over the coastal districts of north-east England early last night. A few enemy aircraft were over southern England to-day, likewise causing same casualties and damage.
