Owing to unfavourable weather conditions the Governer-General and Lady Newall will not return to Wellington from Nelson until to-day. Mr. F. D. Grant, who was recently promoted a major of the Defence Engineering Service Corps, has been appointed district public works engineer for Canterbury in place of Mr. T. G. Beck, now inspecting engineer at head office, Wellington. Mr. Grant began his engineering career as a surveyor in Hawke’s Bay and subseauently became engineer to the Wairoa County Council.
