ARRESTS IN FRANCE
ALLEGED COMMUNISTS ARMS DEPOT IN NANTES (10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 31. According to the Vichy radio, .the police ' at Nantes discovered a .criminal organisation and arrested '144, members, who are alleged to .have committed crimes of '.all kinds. They are all described as Communists |snd .42 also as Spaniards, who established a' Popular Front organisation lij France after Jjjey were sentenced ;to dea'th, in Spain. An arms .depot was found and also a warehouse containing propaganda. One “terrorist” was killed when he attacked the police. Many legionaries travelling to Clermont-Ferrand to hear Marshal Petain’s speech were injured when the train was .derailed.
