ALLIES’ EIGHT FRONTS
MAXIMUM ARMS NEEDED U.S. ADMIRAL’S APPEAL (10 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 31. Admiral E. J. King, Commander-in-chief of the United States Navy, speaking at a patriotic celebration by workers in his home town, Lorain, Ohio, said: “The Battle of the Solomons is only a hint of what will ultimately happen to the enemy, but we need every killing tool you can
make. Our greatest difficulty is implementing the eight fronts simultaneously. We should hit the best stride on the home" front within a year. Then we will proceed to victory, but the war will be long and hard.” He called the eight fronts the British, Middle East, India, China, Alaska, Hawaii, the south-west Pacific and Russia. ’ \
General Somervell, U.S. Army Supplies Chief, writing in the September issue of the magazine Factory Management, issues a warning ‘ that industry must forget peace-time rivalry but it must not forget we are losing the war and will continue to lose until the home front is unselfishly united, with every thought, action and the same spirit which inspires our soldiers who are dying on the battlefront.
