Regent.—Recreating a typical English garden was the task which confronted the production department at M-G-M studios during the filming of “Smilin’ Through,” starring Jeanette MacDonald and Brian Aherne; and now playing at the Regent Theatre. In order to make the settings, which were photographed in Technicolour, authentic, more than 600 shrubs and ferns were imported, 1460 feet of growing grass, three willow ti'ees and thousands of blooms including rhododendrons, roses and daisies. Majestic.—The first ‘spring into spring” programme consists of two comedies. “Old Mother Riley in Business,” a British comedy starring the London “Dame,” Arthur Lucan, is said to be funnier than the “Lambeth Walk.” “Keg’lar Fellers” is a different type of .comedy starring “Alfalfa,” Billy Lee, Roscoe Ates and Sarah Padden. The serial is "Jungle Girl.” An added stage attraction each afternoon at 1.30 is the “Kiddie Revue,” presented by Maureen Keaney. ... King’s.—Out of the homely virtues of a group of Welsh mining folk, and out of the modest ‘lives of a few sturdy leaders in their midst, 20th Century-Fox has fashioned a motion picture of great poetic charm and dignity, a film of such power and honesty that it can truly be regarded as an outstanding picture. It is the film version of the Richard Lewellyn best-selling novel, "llow Green Was My Valley,” which iB now screening at the King’s Theatre.
