GIBRALTAR MOVES
AXIS RADIO concern NAZI FORCk FOR DAKAR (2 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 30. Concurrent with reports from Stockholm that a German division is already going to Dakar to implement German demands .for stronger defence of West Africa, the Axis radios are. playing up to the reports of activity at Gibraltar. The Rome radio says that one transport alone landed 3500 men at Gibraltar. It added that Royal Air Force planes throughout the day were flying over Gibraltar, coast defences exercises are being carried ou.t, and large bodies of troops are practising landings. The Vichy radio quoted an Algeciras, report to the effect that several British transports which arrived at Gibraltar landed 3000 reinforcements for the garrison. The Vichy radio also reported that Admjral Esteva, commander of the Frenbh forces it; Tunis, arrived in Vichy and conferred with Marshal Petain and M. Laval. Dr. Goebbels, German Propaganda Minister, has arrived in Venice.
Thb Vichy News Agency stated that a British convoy, comprising 26 merchant ships, left Gibraltar, sailing in the direction of the Atlantic.
