OBITUARY

MR. JAMES SIDDELLS The death has occurred of Mr. James Siddells, former detectivesergeant and Wanganui city councillor, in his eighty-third year, states a message from Wanganui. Born in Nelson, Mr. Siddells spent bis childhood in Marlborough and, at the age of 18 years, joined the Arrped Constabulary, and remained in the depot in Wellington until February, 1880, when he was transferred to the civil police and sent to Hawke’s Bay. He was in charge of Darinevirke and Gisborne sub-districts until January, 1905, when he was transferred to Wanganui, where he became one of the first detective-sergeants in the Dominion. Mr. Siddells retired on superannuation in 1917, after 40 years’ service. After his retirement Mr. Siddells resided in Wanganui, and was a member of the city council for 12 years and a member of the harbour board for nine years. He is survived by five daughters and two sons. One son is Captain K. Siddells, Mayor of Pahiatua and former AH Blqck.
