DIFFICULT TASK
WORK OF JUDGES \ GISBORNE COMPETITIONS i At,the conclusion of last night’s performances at the Gisborne Competitions Society’s annual festival the vocal and' instrumental judge,. Mr. Hamilton Dickson, said that throughout the day the standard of the work had been high, while during the evening it had been even better. ! “I ,think the competitors set out to give me a hard night’s work, and they certainly did,” said Mr. Dickson, i The two vocal classes for ladies, the national song and' the contralto solo, were fine sections, and some beautiful singing . was heard in them. The winner of the contralto solo, Mrs. C. K. Williams, gave a most artistic rendition of her selection, while in the national 1 ' song the same competitor sang beautifully, but it was most unfortunate that she made a memory slip. ,'. i ■ Mr; Bentley gave a splendid performance of “Fear Ye Not, O Israel,” in the sacred solo for gentlemen. The duet ■ in', costume provided delightful entertainment. The junior classes were all good, especially the piano solo, in which many promising young pianists appeared. •' The • results of last night’s finals were:— Tap Dance, in and under 13 (15 entries). — Mufjoi-ie 1 Forshaw, 81 points, 1 ; Audrey Illingworth, 80 points, 2; Margaret Good-year,-v.h.c.MeiTie Bowlaud, Napier, June Paine, Shirley Sargent, Eva Rogers, h.e.
