SERVICE APPEALS

GENERAL AND RELEASES ARMED FORCES BOARD Appeals against general service and for release from military camps were heard at yesterday’s sitting of the Gisborne Armed Forces Appeal Board, at which Mr. F. R. Ball presided, with him being Messrs. J. E. Benson and C. E. Bickford. General service appeals, the appel-i lant being mentioned after the reservist, which were adjourned sinedie with alternative service in the 1 Home Guard, were: W. J. Clark, farm manager, Director of National Service;' D. E. Worsnop, orchard worker, J, G. Hardy; H. R. Stevens, dairy farmer and shepherd, Gray’s estate, Director of National Service; D. Kirkland, stud master. Director of National Service; W. T. Rickard, agricultural contractor, Director of National Service. An appeal by the Director of National Service for J. B. Shipp, wood and coal merchant, was adjourned sine die, the reservist to join .the Lines of Communication; a further general service appeal by the director for F. J. Chambers, driver, was adjourned for review, while .the director’s appeal for A. W. Houghton, carpenter, was dismissed, the reservist not to be called before October 31. ] ißeiease appeals to which indefinite leave was recommended were: M. J. Doyle, electrician, Ellis and Bull, Ltd., the reservist to join the E.F.S.; W. F. Bowes, farmer, A. T. Smith, to join the Home Guard; E. R'. Garth, mechanic, Akers Bros., release was subject to service with the navy if called up and to join the Home Guard in the meantime; D. Lysaght, .log lorry driver, Gisborne Box Company, to join the Home Guard. Other releases were: L. E. Mullany, farmer, self, ,to December 31, to join the Home Guard; C. Watson, farm labourer, A. J. Barber, and S. A. Manuel, farm hand, M. D. Manuel, to: January 31, to join the Home Guard.Watson’s case is to be reviewed at the expiration of his leave. J. T. Irving, farm hand, H. R. Irving, to February 28, to join the Home Guard; A. Hooper, shepherd, Hutchinson 8r05.,to March 31.
