AUSTRALIAN CABINET
SIR E. PAGE GIVEN SEAT FIRST OPPOSITION MEMBER (10 a.m.) CANBERRA, Aug. 20. Sir Earle Page, until -lately, Commonwealth representative on the United Kingdom War Cabinet, has been given a seat in the Australian War Cabinet. He will have no vote, but otherwise will take a full part in the Cabinet's work.
This is a development of considerable political importance, since it is the first time an Opposition member has been admitted to the Cabinet. Sir Earle Page also will be a member of the War Advisory Council. Despite recent suggestions of the lack of harmony among members of the Advisory War Council, representatives of both the Government and Opposition evinced a desire at to-day’s meeting for a continuance of the council. ■ .. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. Curtin, described the proceedings . as, characterised by a complete concentration on war problems, and added that the discussions were most helpful and harmonious. The censorship issue, on which the Government and Opposition recently clashed,..was not raised.
