PRESIDENT REBUFFED
WARTIME PRICE CONTROL FARM PRODUCE RATES (Reed. Jan. 12, 9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 11. The Senate, in rejecting President Roosevelt’s personal appeal, adopted an amendment to the Price Control Bill granting the Secretary of Agriculture, Mr. C. R. Wickard, power of veto -wer the war-time farm price ceilings. This is the President's first defeat in Congress since the United States entered the war and was administered by the powerful farm bloc.
