AMERICAN NAVAL PLANS AIRCRAFT CARRIERS (Reed. Jan. 10, 1.30 p.m.) r NEW . YORK', Jan.' 9. A fleet of 50 small aircraft carriers is being rushed to completion by the conversion of, commercial vessels. They will be used for convoying, scouting and 'battle duty. Of less than 10,000 tons, .they are. capable of a speed of 20 knots.' They are fitted with a ■ flight-deck and alb the necessary equipment • They can be converted in 45 driys. Tlie navy' has ' not'discarded the policy of building-.large aircraft carriers. seven of which/ ; are ,in commission and 11 more are ‘building.
