LAMB VALUES HIGHER MATAWHERO STOCK SALE An improved demand for store sheep occurred yesterday at the Matawhero stock sale, the first of the new year, when there was a good attendance considering the petrol restrictions. The store sheet) yarding totalled about 3500, but there were only about 40 fat sheep, 30 fat cattle, and a small yarding of pigs. Lambs were the main offering in the store sheep section, and values for these improved by Is Gd to 2s a head, while for most of the mature sheep there was also an improved demand. Top quality lambs wore particularly in demand, station lines of shorn wether lambs of good size and in forward condition making from 13s to 15s Id, while woolly lambs of the same description ranged from 13s 2d, to 15s Gd. Medium shorn wether lambs sold from Sis to 10s Gd, with smaller sorts and culls from 5s to 7s. Ewe lambs were not represented by large numbers, and these comprised only a few small pens of tail-end shorn lambs which sold from 7s to 9s Gd. A few pens of small two-tooth breeding ewes of poor quality brought only lGs to 17s. Auction Ads. appear on Page 2. Old store ewes for fattening were not much in demand, and met with only light competition at prices ranging from 3s to 4s. A fair demand existed for wet hers, of which only a few small pens came forward, prices secured being up to 15s Sd. Prices of some of the representative station lines of lambs are given below:—Sixty forward woolly wether lambs, displaying a little seed, tops from Parakanapa station, 15s Gd; 222, second cut from same vendor, 13s 2d; shorn wether lambs, tops from Mr. F. Jersey sorts were not well competed for, cows selling from £2 to £3 15s. Bidding was also slack, and many lines were passed in.
