FORTUNE TELLER FINED
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day
In fining Rose Scorringe ,C 5 on each of two charges of fortune telling, the magistrate, Mr. J. L. Stout, warned her that a repetition of the offence would mean prison. It was stated on behalf of the police that on a number of occasions women had been seen leaving Mrs. Scorringe’s house in Te Aro. Fortune tellers, it was said, preyed upon women who were worried by the absence at the war of their husbands, sons, and brothers. Scorringe said she had lost a son at the war. Her husband was a dying man, and she was trying to help him. !
