NELSON CENTENNIAL
FUNCTIONS CURTAILED (Per Press Association.) NELSON, this day. Nelson’s centennial celebration programme arranged for January 31 and early in February has been severely curtailed on account of the war situation. One of the main filrictions, the dedication Of the memorial to early gettlers on Chtircli Hill, will be hrild on Anniversary . Day, February 1. but the other functions planned, including the re-enactment of the landing of the pioneers, children’s day, the centennial ball,,, sports gatherings and a historical exhibition have been postponed indefinitely. A Jrirge number of New. Zealand organisations, including the Municipal Association, had. arranged . to., hold their aririual conferences at Nelson, though no cancellations have yet, brien rijade, it is unlikely that many will eventuate. The reopening of the schools had ben advanced a wrick to allow the children to take part, but they will now reopen on the original date, February 3.
