ALL-ROUND INCREASE
INDIAN PRODUCTION . CONTRIBUTION TO WAR (Reed. Jan. 9, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 8. Vast increases in munitions production are recorded in India. All ordnance factories, all railway workshops, and nearly 300 civil factories are working to their maximum capacity to increase still further the warlike stores pouring from Indian factories to the battle zones ’throughout the East, says The Times Delhi correspondent. The Government is bearing the cost of 20 new munitions projects and establishing additional schemes for expanding and modernising Indian ordnance factories. India has now advanced towards self-sufficiency in the manufacture of high explosives. The success of an Indian company producing planes under a Government plan is largely due to the help of the United States Government in facilitating the supply of a majority of the essential machine tools. The Admiralty is supporting the Indian programme for building large merchantmen. Bullet-proof armoured plate, now made in India, enables the authorities to produce armoured vehicles formerly imported and increasing numbers of them are being sent far overseas.
