GOOD LITTER WEIGHTS

GISBORNE AND COAST MAORI CLUB’S SUCCESS 4 7LB. AT EIGHT WEEKS Some good litter weights have been recorded recently by Mr. F. R. Bould, who has been conducting the pig recording work in the Gisborne and East Coast districts. The best average, although not the heaviest litter, has been secured by an all-Maori pig club, the one at Hicks Bay, where a litter of six Berkshires averaged 47.171 b. at eight weeks, with none of the six below 401 b. Much interest was shown in the weighing of the Manutuke Pig Club’s litter of nine, in view of the fact that the club won first prize at the recent Gisborne Show in the sow and litter class. With few exceptions, the young pigs were a very even lot, the average being 38.661 b. at eight weeks. There were five males and four females in the Manutuke Club's litter. which weighed 1131 b, at three weeks and 3481 b. at eight weeks. The Individual weights were: —Males, 30lb, 401 b., 401 b., 441 b., 331 b.; females, 431 b., 441 b., 441 b., 301 b. The custodian is Mr D. O’Connell. The Hicks Bay Club’s litter weighed 1361 b. at four weeks and 2831 b. at eight weeks. There were two males and four females, the individual weights being:—Males, 501 b., 551 b., females, 401 b., 521 b.. 441 b., 421 b. The custodian is Mr. Wi White. Two privately-owned litters also were recorded recently. Mr. C. JHamilton’s Tamworth sow had a litter of five, the total weight at three weeks being 451 b. and at eight weeks 1831 b. There were three males and two females, their weights being:—Males. 421 b., 421 b.. 341 b.; females, 351 b., 301 b. Mr. N. Sadler’s Tamworth sow at Mang'atuna had a litter of eight, which had a to 1 a I weight of 1071 b. at four weeks and 3021 b. at eight weeks, the individual weights of the six males and two females being:—Males, 381 b., 431 b., 391 b., 391 b., 401 b.; females, 351 b., 201 b. ___________
