During his visit to the King ano Queen of Italy to-day the Pbpe spent an hour at the palace, where he met members of the Italian royal family and other dignitaries. As His Holiness returned to the Vatican large crowds cheered enthusiastically. The Pope’s address to the King and Queen is described as "most important.” The King replied cordially. In his speech the Pope said that the visit to the King and Queen resea leu the happy concord between the church and State. He invoked divine protection for the royal family and hoped that the peace which Italy’s rulers were safeguarding and , which was malting Italy greater and more respected throughout the world would be a stimulus to new understanding among the peoples at present warring. Durable peace would be sought vainly outside the royal ways of justice ana Christian charity.

The Italian press hails the visit as a “realisation of the dream of the Mussolinian era.”
