Farewell Dinner Party
The jolly buffet dinner party given by Mr. and Mrs. R. Dobson at their home in Hurahura road on Wednesday night enabled a number of friends to offer their good wishes to Sergeant S. McLernon and Private C. McLernon, members of the First Echelon of the second New Zealand Division, under very pleasant circumstances. Bowls of mixed flowers in rich tonings were placed advantageously in the drawing-room, and the artistic decorative note was repeated in the dining-room.
Jolly Five O'Clock Party
Informality marked the jolly 5 o’clock party given by Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Field, Waimata Valley, at their cottage at Wainui Beach, on Wednesday, as a farewell to Major A. S. Muir. Good wishes for a safe return were showered iipon the chief guest, who is accompanying the First Echelon of the Second New Zealand Division as transport officer. The decorations were artistically carried out with shaded hydrangeas, combined with vividly - tinted geraniums.
“Pantry” Party For Bride-Elect
Shaded dahlias were artistically arranged by Mrs. J. J. Keane at her home in Stanley road recently, when she gave a delightful “pantry” tea for Miss Mary Barry, whose marriage to Mr. A. McTavish takes place next month.
A cleverly-arranged competition was enjoyed by the guests, and the winner, Miss Mavis Sexton, was rewarded with an attractive gift. Vocal solos were sung charmingly by Mrs. P. Barry and Miss McCashin, and community singing also was entered into with enthusiasm, with Miss P. Keane at the piano. A delectable afternoon tea was served informally, and later the parcels were opened by the bride-to-be, assisted by one of her prospective bridesmaids, Miss U, Quinn, revealing a varied assortment of useful gifts. The kindness of her- friends was acknowledged in a happy manner by Miss Barry, who was toasted with musical honours.
Mrs. Keane, who was assisted in the entertainment of the guests by her sister, Miss McCashin, was wearing a graceful model gown of black georgette and lace. Miss McCashin wore a becoming frock of powder blue floral crepe-de-chine, and a pretty frock of green and pink striped sheer was worn by Miss P. Keane.
Miss Barry looked smart in a frock of London tan sheer and a matching felt hat.
Among the guests were Mesdames P. Barry, J. Rossbotham, C. Parker, Evans, Sexton, V. Patterson, C. Hall, R. Jones, R. Hill, W. McKay, C. Quinn, J. Dow, J. J. Martin, D. Barry, and J. McDonald; Misses M. Sexton, U. Quinn, T. Peterson and E. Buscke.
