MEN OF ACHILLES

MAGNIFICENT CONDUCT PRAISE BY CAPTAIN (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, has received through the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs, Mr. Anthony Eden, the following telegram from the commanding officer of I-I.M.S. Achilles in reply to the one sent by His Excellency: “The Captain, officers and ship’s company of H.M.S. Achilles are most gratified to receive the message of the New Zealand Government, and the people of New Zealand may well be proud of the magnificent behaviour of her sons during their first naval battle. Their continued cheerfulness during long patrol without shore leave has been equally exemplary. All ranks and ratings on board look forward to further opportunities of enhancing the good work and the splendid example of the Dominion in the common war effort."
