Mayson, Auckland, in defending his men’s singles title, was the main surprise of the quarter-finals in the Canterbury tennis championships. Mayson went down to R. G. Pattinson, 6—o, 6 —4, in two straight sets. In eliminating A. R. Cant with the loss of only one game, A. D. Brown gave the finest exhibition of singles play yet seen in the tournament. Brown beat Cant 6 —o, 6 —l.
