- I SLICED TANKER’S CREW RESCUE BY DESTROYER (Reed. Dee. 20, 0 a.m.l LONDON, Dec. 28. How the crew, of the tanker San Alberto tried to navigate half the vessel to port, after a German torpedo had bisected, here on December 0 is revealed by the crew, who escaped in four boats just before the forepart sank. The captain and the occupants of three boats regained part of the vessel, which was found to be staunch. They raised steam, switched on the lights, and went slow astern to prevent the waves ripping off the plates whenever she faced head seas. The crew were eventually rescued by a destroyer,
