DROUGHT CONDITIONS
SOUTH CANTERBURY ACUTE FEED POSITION For the first time for many years freezing works in Canterbury . will operate in the holiday season. Killing will be done at all works to-mor-row and Friday. The reopening of the works during the holidays was caused by the shortage of feed in South Canterbury. The works there found it necessary to resume killing between Christmas and New Year, and the decision of a company operating also in North Canterbury to follow suit led to the decision of other companies also to reopen their works in a period in past years considered as a holiday. Conditions approaching those of a drought are being experienced in South Canterbury and the feed position is acute.
