FISHING SEASON

ROTORUA AND TAUPO CONSERVATOR’S REVIEW V _ t SOME GOOD SPORT In his fortnightly report upon trout-fishing conditions in the Rotorua and Taupo districts the conservator of fish and game, Mr. A. Kean, states that fishing in the Rotorua area has been good. One angler fishing at Hamurana for three days took two limits and a bag of seven. The biggest fish went-about 81b and the average 3|lb. The fish were in good condition. Several limit bags have been taken from the lake at Ngongotaha, the best time of the day being from 5.30 p.m. until dark. Awahou has also fished well. Trolling on Rotorua has been fairly successful. The fishing in Rotoiti has been difficult, although some good bags were taken- in the vicinity of Gisborne Point. ' Lake Okataina has again provided excellent fishing. Very little fishing has been done in the Whakatane and Opotiki districts, but the fish that have been taken have been in good condition. Fishing in the Waikato River in the vicinity of Fulljames’ camp, has been very satisfactory, with excellently conditioned fish. Few anglers have been fishing the Tokaanu area. The rivers and streams have been swollen by the consistent rain at the Delta. The fishing at Motutere Point has not been good. Most of the fish appear to be out in deeper water. The evening rise has resumed on the Tongariro. The fish generally are in better condition than they have been for the Past five years at this period of the season., Both wet and dry fly fishing lias been exceptionally good in the Waikato River, and the fish are in excellent condition.

A few good fish are being taken from the Waitahanui.
