An engagement is announced between Dudley Ronald, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Surridge, Timaru, and Gladys Irene, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. TI. Bissenden, Ormond road, Gisborne.
Lieut. Col. G. Dittmer, commanding officer of the Maori Battalion, has been spending the Christmas vacation in Gisborne
Mr. J. M. Ranstead, Matangi, Waikato, has been appointed a member of the advisory council of scientific and industrial research.
The Rev. E. Chard, of Perth, Australia, has been appointed assistant priest at St. Peter's Cathedral, Hamilton.
The Hon. W. Wise, Director of Public Works in Fiji, and Mrs. Wise have arrived at Auckland. They intend to spend some months in touring the Dominion.
