OBITUARY

MR. C. HOLMWOOD

Mr. Charles Holmwoocl. an old and respected resident of the Mount Bruce district. Masterton, died last Thursday a! the age of 77. Born in Melbourne, he was the eldest son of Captain C. Holmwoocl, a well-known officer of the Mercantile Marine. He went to the Wairarapa. aged 18, after working for a short time in the offices of his uncles, Messrs. Holmwood and Holmwood. a Scottish firm of shipowners. Mr. Holmwood took little part in public life o'lior than giving his active support to Rugby football.

PIONEER'S DEATH

The death lias occurred in Pahiatua of Mr. William Gibbons Harp, a wellknown Hamilton resident, at the age of 87. Mr. Harp was bow at Smale’s Point, Auckland, in 1852, being the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. James
