CANTERBURY STORM
EARLY MORNING DELUGE RELIEF TO PASTURES FLOODING IN CITY (Per Presß Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Canterbury’s long spell of dry weather came to a sudden end in the early hours of this morning. Heavy rain was experienced in the city and most parts of the province, the downpour lasting until about 9 o’clock. Last night the weather was warm and line which gave no warning of the storm. At 9 a.m., however, just under an inch of rain had fallen and considerable flooding was evidenced in many of the city streets. For the most part the rain was enthusiastically welcomed. It was badly needed for pastures while it came at the right time for the ii.lling' out of wheat before the harvesting season.
The only place where serious Hooding occurred was at the new overhead bridge at Rakaia. There was so much water on the north side early this morning that cars were unable to get through.
