MALTA CONTRIBUTES
RATINGS IN NAVY LAND FORCES RAISED (British Official Wireless.) Reed noon. RUGBY. Dec. 25. The magnitude of the contribution of Malta to the Empire’s war effort can be gauged from the fact that of the total population, including women and children, of only 260,000 there are no less than 1300 ratings from Malta serving in the Royal Navy. There has been an equal and enthusiastic raising of the Malta land forces to emergency strength. The Royal Malta Artillery has been nearly quadrupled during the past year and there is now a second battalion of the King's Own Malta Regiment.
She has also formed a battery for defence against air attack on the lines of the “factory batteries” established in England.
