MANY ABSENTEES
FAMILY REUNIONS CHRISTMAS AT HOME (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, Dec. 2b. Troops home on leave and women in uniform were numerous among the crowds which thronged the London streets and shops on the eve of the strangest Christmas holiday England has ever experienced. Family reunions, usually an outstanding feature of the Christmas festivities were in most cases incomplete, not merely because of the absence of large numbers of men and women with the lighting forces and the auxiliary services, but also because over 500,000 children evacuated from the more parts of London are all in temporary homes in reception areas.
