SIR WM. GLASGOW HIGH COMMISIONERSHIP (Reed. Dec. 26, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 25. Major-General Sir William Glasgow, a former Australian Minister of Defence, has been appointed the first Australian High Commissioner in Canada. The Australian High Commissioner for Washington will be appointed early in the new year The Canadian High Commissioner for Australia, Mr. Burchell ,will arrive within a few days. - Messages from Ottawa state that Sir William Glasgow’s appointment is viewed as linking the Dominions more closely. Satisfaction is expressed with Australia in sending so distinguished and experienced a representative. An exchange of High Commissioners with New Zealand, South Africa, and Ireland is expected shortly, creating an intra-Empire diplomatic staff. The Canadian Government believes that the war made necessary more effective co-operation among the Dominions.
