The Kapuni reached Gisborne on Sunday morning from Auckland and unloads .general cargo here -to-morrow, departing thence for Auckland. ju WORK IN U.S. SHIPYARDS According to the latest list issued by the American Bureau of Shipping, the total number of ships under construction or on order in United States shipyards for classification by the society was 179 of 1,041.980 tons gross on October 1. These figßres compare with 130 of 093,115 fpns on September 1, and' 93 of 448,365 tons on October 1, 1938. 50TH ROUND VOYAGE A milestone in the history of the Matron -Line’s service from San Francisco to New Zealand and Australia is being achieved on the present journey of the Mariposa. This 23,(iQ0-ton liner is now on her fiftieth round voyage in the trade. On her return to San Franci’sco she will have covered 750,000 miles on the. long Pacific run on this voyage. The .Mariposa is under the command of Captain Hubbenette, formerly commander of Lurline and Matsonia in the company’s Hawaiian service. Captain Hubbenette, who is relieving the Mariposa’s regular mas,ter, Captain Meyer, for the .round voyage, yisited Auckland, a year ago as observing captain on the Monterey.

The Mariposa first visited Auckland in March, 1932. Its sister ship, the Monterey, started in the service some time later. The Monterey will leave San Francisco on her fiftieth round voyage on February 27.
