BEING INTERNED

AUCKLAND GERMANS SEVEN IN CUSTODY LUCKNER’S RADIO MAN NAZI ARMY OFFICER (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Seven German nationalists living in Auckland were taken into custody last night by detectives who had . warrant from the Attorney-Generai. the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, to arrest them under the alien control emergency regulations. The seven men, one of them formerly a radio operator in Count von Luckner’s yacht Seeteufel, spent the night at the Papakura military camp. They left there to-day for Wellington, where they probably 'will be interned on Somes Island. Their names are:

Kurt Wilhelm Schmidt, aged 35, a married man. with two children. Gregor Riethmaier, aged 26, de scribed as an expert radio operator.

Arthur Richard Leuschke, aged 50. a married man with a grown-up family. Frederick Wilhelm Kersten, aged 52. described as a German Nationalist, a married man with two children. He was a second lieutenant in the German Army and came to Auckland in 1935.

Max Grapengiesser, aged 61, secretary of the German Club in Auckland, a married man with three children.

Qualbert Eugene Fischer, aged 59 an expert in the mining of mercury a married man with three children.

Gustave Belin, aged 41, married, with three children. All are natives of Germany.
