Flight-Lieutenant G. A. Nicholls arrived at Gisborne yesterday on Christmas leave from the Air Force Training Station at Wereroa. Mr. and Mrs. H. Schutz announce the engagement of their daughter, Lesley Delia, to Paul Dudley, only son of Mr. H. D. Evans, and the late Mrs. Evans, Waipiro Bay. An engagement is announced between Richard John, second son of Dr. and Mrs. Wilfred Feltham, Raetihi, and Nancy, second daughter of Mr and Mrs. J. G. Appleton, Te Karaka. The engagement is announced of John David, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Wykes, Waingake, and Evelyn Dale, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Dale, Clifford street. Gisborne.
The engagement is announced of John Hadfield, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Lawton, Rutene road, and Margaret Isobel, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hockley, Ballance street, Gisborne. Mr. W. M. Jenkins, town clerk, left Gisborne this morning to spend his annual leave in the Waikato. He was accompanied by Mrs. Jenkins, and will return to Gisborne after the Christmas and 'New Year holidays. Mr. S. J. Irwin, who has been senior inspector for the Southland primary schools district for the last five years, has been promoted to the position of senior inspector for the Wellington district and will take up his new duties on March L
Private A. H. C. Perry, New Zealand Field Ambulance, son of Mr. F. Colin Perry, Lower Hutt, arrived from Auckland last evening to bid farewell to relatives in this district. Private Perry, who left for the souththis morning, accompanies the First Echtldn. of the Second New Zealand Division overseas.
