THE WEATHER Last Night’s Forecast General Situation; —An anti-cyclone still covers the North Island, but the pressure has fallen in the south. Forecast: Winds freshening north to west; winds from Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay southwards light and variable. Seas in New Zealand waters rather rough to rough about Cook Strait and south of Cape Egmont: elsewhere slight or moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea; North-westerly winds, light in the northern portion with slight seas; fresh to strong in the southern portion with rough seas. Weather: Unsettled in the western and southern areas of the South Island with occasional rain, but elsewhere fair to cloudy. Temperatures: Mild to warm.

Overcast conditions were reported at Wellington and Opotiki this morning, but there were blue skies at most other points along the East Coast. Light northerly winds continued to prevail over the larger portion of the coast, with light southerly breezes in the Auckland district. The temperatures at 9 a.m. were; Gisborne and Tauranga, 73 degrees; Opotiki, and Cape PaLliser, 72; Napier, 70; East Cape and Auckland. 66: Wellington, 63.
