VEHICLE OVERTURNS
TOKOMARU BAY MISHAP SKID IN LOOSE METAL WOMAN’S ARM BROKEN (Special to tko Herald.) TOKOMARU BAY, this day. When a car in which she was travelling overturned this morning at a bend of the East Coast highway about six miles on the Gisborne side of Tokomaru Bay a Maori resident of that district, Mrs. Huina Taumutu, aged 54, suffered a broken arm, abrasions, and shock. The four other occupants of the vehicle, all Tokomaru Bay residents, escaped with slight abrasions and shock.
The car was owned jointly by Mrs. Taumutu and Mr. E. Wall, and Mrs. Taumutu had engaged another Maori, Mr. Eru Manuel, to drive her and a party of friends to Gisborne this morning. The driver and the injured woman, together with Mrs. Collins, Miss May lopa, and Mr. Gerrard Babbington, set out from Tokomaru Bay shortly before 7 a.m., and the accident occurred at 7 a.m.
When Mr. Manuel was negotiating the corner he lost control of the car in a skid in loose metal and the injuries to the passengers were suffered when the vehicle capsized. The plight of Mrs, Taumutu was noticed and arrangements were made quickly for a taxi to convey her to the Wuiapu Hospital, Te Pula, for medical attention.
