Christmas Benefits
Approximately £2OOO will be spent in the provision of Christmas gifts for the poor in Christchurch this week and in grants to charitable and welfare organisations. The Mayor’s Social Service Centre will distribute £750 worth of Christmas comforts, £SOO of this being a Government grant, the balance of £250 coming from the Mayor’s relief cf distress fund. The ■Mayor. Mr. R M. Macfarlane, has allocated more than £llOO from relief funds raised at community singing sessions.
