WOOL OF OTAGO

INCREASE IN VALUES MERINO UP TO 19.5 D PEAK FOR HALFBRED CLIP APPRAISED (Pur Prnss Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. Appraisements in connection with the Imperial wool-purchase scheme have been proceeding since Monday and the final catalogues were dealt with yesterday. The combined brokers brought forward catalogues totalling 21,431 bales and within a few clays it is expected that full instructions will be issued for wools which have shipped to the United Kingdom, the local mills have also been busy selecting their requirements and have been allocating their quantities.

The clip on the whole, although for the most part of good colour, was somewhat patchy and was much lighter in condition than was the case last year. A fair proportion of toe wool showed signs of severe weathering, but the bulk of the clip exhibiteu better quality than was generally anticipated.

High country wool showed the ellect of the severe winter with its unusual snows and the staple was weaker and lacked its usual length.

Crossbred hoggets from the south, where the sheep were well wintered were sound and of good colour, whereas in other districts the fibie was inclined to show tenderness. Skirling Neglected

The general gelup of the clips was satisfactory, but some growers are still leaving fleece wool imskirlod. in these cases the brokers found it necessary to unroll the ileeces and slurt in order that various types could he priced according to the schedule.

In Merinos the Puketoi clip again command the top price, this being 193 d, which was paid for three lots.

Some very attractive lines oi super fine halfbreds were offered, one fourbale lot carrying the brand TC/Strathclyde being appraised at 19$d. the top price for halfbred in New Zealand to-day.

The second appraisement for Dunedin is listed for January, 1940 The official range of prices, compared with the rates ruling at the December sale in Dunedin last year are as follows:
