FATAL INJURIES

TRACTOR DRIVER’S FALL CRUSHED BY WHEEL (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A finding that Leslie Simmonds, aged 40, a mechanic, died at the Wellington Hospital on December 15 as a result of multiple internal injuries due to being crushed by the front wheel of a tractor, was given by the coroner, Mr. Emslie, at the inquest to-day. The medical evidence included a statement that an analysis showed the deceased had consumed a considerable quantity of liquor. This might have affected the deceased to the point of losing his balance. A foreman at the main highways depot on the Hutt road, said that when the tractor was stopped, the deceased, who drove it, was lying between the front wheel and the framework of its broom, clutching a full unopened bottle of beer in the crook of his left arm. Tlie other evidence included the statements of those present when the deceased fell from the controls.
