Particularly appealing to young people, but none the less entertaining to adults, is "Spirit of Culver," in which Tom Allen (Jackie Cooper), who believes his father died a hero in the Great War, is first found in a job in a soup kitchen. By chance he i, enabled to go to the Culver Military Academy, where he becomes obFcessod with a grudge he develops against the sons of wealthy parents. Fi iendship is offered him by his mates, but it is not acceptable to him, and it is only after a boxing match which he wins in a thrilling fight that he realises the friendship offered him is honest. He is awarded the Culver championship, and it is about this time that he becomes pals with his room mate. Bob Randolph (Freddie Bartholomew)^. lust before- vacation a friend of Tom's learns that Toms father is alive, but is suffering from si ellshock. The father is sent to hospital. where the friend arranges that he shall be visited by the son, although -Tom is then not aware of the relationship. There are some touching scenes when Tom and l'is father (Henry Hull) meet, but all ends as an audience would wish. "Big Town Czar,” the associate feature, is a tt rilling drama of the underworld starring Barton Mac Lane, Frank Jenks and Tom Brow r. An added attraction is the second chapter of "The Lone Ranger,"
—Friday: Special Sessions far “Death of a Champion” and “Thanks for the
Memory.”—
Four sessions have been arranged for Friday, the opening day of a new holiday programme, “Death ol a Champion,” is a merry murder mystery starring Lynn Overman, Donald O'Connor and Virginia Dale. The associate feature, “Thanks for the Memory,” is one of the lincst stories of young married life ihal ever made its laughable way across the screen. The stars are Bob Hope and Shirley Ross, who made the song “Thanks for the Memory” practically a national anthem. "The Oregon Trail” completes a'great programme, which will be screened on Friday and Saturday only. The spe fiat attraction to commence on Monday, Christmas Day, is the great human comedy classic "East Side of Heaven” which Smith’s Weekly's critic awarded A.A. It introduces Baby Sandy, a great kid, Joan Blondell, Mischa Auer and Bing Crosby are the chief merry-makers.
