INCREASED SOWING

ACREAGE IN WHEAT LAST SEASON’S CROP FINAL PAYOUT READY (Por Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan announced a final payr ent of 3cl a bushel on the 1938-39 wheat crop was now being made, the total payment being £55,571. Cheques have been forwarded to tlie brokers who arc making the payment to growers as expeditiously as possible, and it is expected that the payout will be completed before Christmas.

“The whoalgrowers .have made a splendid effort this year in increasing the area for the harvest in 1940 by 66,000 acres," said Mr. Sullivan. Because the Empire is at war, it is row more important than ever that the Dominion should be entirely independent of overseas supplies. To ensure this, it is necessary that the growers should sow at least 300,000 acres in 1941.
