HONEY EXPORTS

WIDER POSSIBILITIES

BRITAIN TAKING MORE As a result of negotiations by the Internal Marketing Division with the British Government, the limitation of honey imports from New Zealand to 240 tons annually, imposed by the British Government at the beginning if the war, has been removed. The possibility of exporting all honey available, arising from the negotiations, was one of the chief topics discussed at a meeting of the Honey Control Board.

The import restriction of 240 tons, the chairman, Mr. W. Nelson, explained, had been fixed from last season’s figures, which were much below the normal level. Beekeepers, he said, could be assured that the Marketing Division had a market at a payable price for all honey sent forward, provided it measured up to the required standard. Honey would be received by the division in either liquid or granulated condition, and advances would be made immediately after grading.

The British Government, Mr. Nelson continued, had stopped imports of honey from foreign countries, giving New Zealand producers an opportunity of increasing their business overseas.

“I feel sure,” he concluded, "that producers will recognise that it is to their interests to co-operate with the marketing organisation set up for the benefit of producers and consumers alike.”
