New Zealand were in marked contrast, said a Christchurch resident who reached home last week after being in England when hostilities broke out. He said the people in Britain were “on their toes” keen and eager to maintain a united effort against the enemy, while New \Zealanders had hardly seemed to realise that the war was on. There seemed tb be a division of effort in the Dominion caused by the political war that was raging. For the sake of their good name, New Zealanders should follow Britain’s example and get on with the job
