NEUTRAL BORDERS
GERMAN FORCES MECHANISED DIVISIONS DISCONTENT SHOWN WEST FRONT FORAYS FRENCH TAKE CAPTIVES (Fine. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Dec. 20, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 19. A correspondent of the Daily Telegraph at Eupen, Belgium, says that the massing of German troops between the left'bank of the Rhine and the Luxembourg, Belgian and Dutch frontiers continues, involving 20 army corps, eacli composed of two or three divisions partly augmented by troops from Central Germany and Poland.
The mechanised divisions along the Rhine have been largely reinforced and their firing power increased.
Relations between the troops and the local civilians are unsatisfactory. Discontent is openly shown by the German troops owing to the suppression of Christmas leave.
“Nothing- of Importance”
A war communique issued in Paris this morning stated there was then nothing of importance to report. A French official communique issued last evening stated: “Towards midday a sharp engagement took place in the Vosges sector between one of our reconnoitring parties and German units. We made some prisoners, including two officers. It is quiet elsewhere.”
A German communique states that artillery fire between the Moselle and Pfaelzer Wood was more active. The Germans claim that their air force carried out reconnaissance flights in the east of France and over the North Sea.
