SOLDIERS’ NEEDS

PATRIOTIC SPIRIT DOMINION-WIDE APPEAL LORD GALWAY’S LEAD Residents of Gisborne and the surrounding district have received from the National Patriotic Fund Board, Wellington, copies of Lord Galway’s appeal on behalf of the national patriotic funds, which the council is to administer on behalf of the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and merchant mariners from this country who are giving their services in the war.

The appeal 's accompanied by the issue of patriotic seals, and addressees Oi the letters are requested to buy the seals on the basis of one penny each. By means of these seals, the council should be able to raise a substantial sum for its very necessary purposes, providing the response is worthy of the cause.

For private citizens, the tentative assessment is 2> (id each, or the equivalent of ’lO seals. In the case of businesses, a total of 120 seals has been forwarded in each letter from the central council, and the recipients are invited to "emit the corresponding sum of 10s. There can be no question of pressing the seals - upon .any recipient, of course, but it is hoped that the scheme will be adopted with whole hearted generosity throughout the Dominion.

It Is important that the response should be immediate as well as generous, and it is suggested that Christmas mail offers an excellent opportunity to put the seals into circula-' ticn. Post offices throughout the Dominion are prepared to handle with dispatch the over-the-counter business associated with the appeal, the adoption of which will entail the purchase and dispatch to the National Patriotic Fund Board in Wellington of postal orders or stamps to the \alue of the seals accepted.
