CREW INTERNED
ARGENTINE ACTION MEN OF GRAF SPEE URUGUAY ARREST CAPTAIN OF TACOMA (Reed. Dec. 19. 11.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 18. It is officially stated in Montevideo that all of the crew of the Nazi warship Grat von Spee, which was scuttled by her captain, are safe. The Uruguayan port authorities sent instructions by radio to the Tacoma, which had taken aboard most of the crew of the warship, to return to Montevideo immediately. The Tacoma's master was arrested for leaving harbour without permission when the vessel anchored at Montevideo carrying 700 of the Grai Spee’s crew, who, it was stated, would be interned. Others were reported to be en route to Buenos Aires in two tugs and launches. It is revealed that the _ Tacoma transferred the Graf Spee’s crew before re-entering Montevideo. The entire crew were reported t"> be en route to Buenos Aires, where it was expected they would be treated as survivors of a marine disaster and not interned. The Buenos Aires correspondent of the Associated Press of America, says, however, that the Graf Spee’s crew arrived aboard two tugboats and one barge. Captain Langsdorff was among the arrivals. Maritime police quickly surrounded the vessels ana isolated the members of the crew A member of the German Legation at Buenos Aires said that there were 1000 arrivals, including the Tacoma’s group. An Argentine spokesman said that the Graf Spee's crew would be interned.
